Shock Tube

Our shock tube, built in 2007-2009, has a design Mach number of 4, a square 75 mm cross-section, and uses helium as the driver gas. The unique feature of our shock tube is its ability to be tilted at an arbitrary angle with the horizontal, which falicitates studies of oblique interaction of shocks with gravity-stratified jets, curtains, or density interfaces. A variety of diagnostics are available, including a gated, intensified Imacon 200 digital camera capable of framing rates of up to 200,000,000 frames per second.
