Course Registration

(at least this is what I'd like to do)

Due to the limited number of teams, Dr. Starr holds a drawing to choose from the interested students. In order to ensure that students are able to take the course before graduating, seniors are chosen first. If there are more seniors interested than spaces available, the seniors are picked randomly. If there are still openings available, the drawing is then weighted depending on how soon the student will be graduating. Here's how the weighting is done:
  • Freshman: 1 point
  • Sophomore: 2 points
  • Junior: 4 points

For instance, lets say next year there are 10 seniors, 7 juniors, 8 sophomores, and 6 freshman that want to take the course. Out of the 18 spaces available (6 teams of 3 people), 10 are immediately filled by the seniors. That leaves 8 spaces that will be filled by randomly choosing from the 21 other interested students using the weighting above.

How to Enter the Drawing

Interested students should send their name to Dr. Starr (starr@unm.edu) with their name, email address, status (freshman, junior, etc.) and, optionally, phone number. The email address and phone number would only be used to contact the student to tell them they were picked for the course.
