Professor James Leith

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The University of New Mexico

I am currently a professor in the field of Fluid and Thermal Dynamics within the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The image below is a collage by Jim Leith of the temporal evolution of the interface in Rayleigh-Taylor mixing, as computed in a Lattice-Boltzmann simulation by Dr. Timothy T. Clark, Complex Systems, Los Alamos National Laboratory. Physically, the interface region is created and grows from an initially quiescent non-mixed state following sudden acceleration downward so that heavier fluid overlies lighter fluid.
